Looking for advice on choosing the best rear axle for my rig. I have a 1990 K5 Jimmy 1/2 ton running 38" swampers, I finally broke them both on Michael Stark. I have located a matching set of dodge single wheel 1 ton dana 60's. I am going to use the front 60 but I wanted a 14 bolt in the rear. I could settle with the rear 60, however I had heard they are weaker than the 14 bolt and I do not know much about the 70 series rear. Eventually I will be using it pretty hard. Any advice, knowledge, or just your opinion would be greatly appreciated!

The Dana 70 and a 14 bolt i have been told are about the same strength wise........but i can locate 14 stuff easier and cheaper than i can find Dana 70 stuff!! So IMO i think the 14 is the way to go!!  ;D 8)

The first rig I built was a full size 1990 K5.  Go with a 14 bolt, you will be much happier.  Also change the front to a high steer, crossover set up.  Get on offroaddesign.com and order their kit.  It works great!!  Make sure you get the frame strengthening kit when you do it, because your frame WILL end up breaking in this spot and can be a real pain in the ass to fix.  I know from experience!  Good luck!
YOUR RIGHT, I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE JEEP THING ??? ???

I agree, much more aftermarket support for the 14 bolt than the D70. I have heard and agree a d60 is to a 14 bolt what a d44 is to a d60(rear vs rear).
